Top picks for DIY Halloween Costumes 2016

October 28, 2016
Only days out from the spookiest night of the year, the pressure is on to decide on the scariest or funniest, most original Halloween costume your neighborhood has ever seen!
Being the DIY experts that we are, here a few tips and pointers on how to create the best Halloween costumes for 2016:
PLAN:
We recommend planning a day or two out from Halloween to make sure you have all of the correct components for your costume. We take dress-ups pretty seriously around here, so the more prep-time, the better!
KEY INGREDIENTS:
- Face paint
- Leaves & greenery
- Op-shop clothing
HELPING HAND:
Depending on what costume you decide to go with, you most likely will need a helping hand to make the final touches to you outfit. Rope in your little sibling, spouse, Mum or Dad to give you some help. We recommend bribes of sugary treats – this often works a ‘treat’ ;)
OUR RECOMMENDED COSTUMES THIS YEAR:
Here are a few of our favourite costumes that we are tossing up this year!
THE FUNNIES:
Darla From Finding Nemo
DIY a "Rock n' Roll Girl" shirt and headgear, and carry a Nemo fish (fake one of course) around all night!
Helga Pataki From Hey, Arnold
The key features of this cartoon costume are pigtails, a pink bow, and a thick uni-brow. Have fun bossing everybody around!
THE SCARIES:
Beetlejuice
The name of the game for this movie costume is to look dead. Pale face, green "mold," and dark eyes go perfectly with a striped top!
Vampire Queen
Red facial contouring and painted fangs are simple to apply with a cheap Halloween makeup kit.
Silent Film Star
This black-and-white film star costume might be perfect for those who think silence is golden. Go greyscale with black and white body paint, then stick to vintage clothes in only black or white.
